Which visa options does Australia offer to refugees?

Australia’s refugee and humanitarian visa program aims to support refugees across the world in need of protection due to a fear of persecution or significant harm in their home country.

The program allows refugees to resettle in Australia or seek protection and remain in Australia depending on their personal circumstances.

The program currently consists of the following refugee and humanitarian visas:

  • Global Special Humanitarian (subclass 202)
  • Protection visa (subclass 866)
  • Refugee visas (subclass 200, 201, 203 and 204)
  • Temporary Protection visa (subclass 785)
  • Safe Haven Enterprise visa (subclass 790)

How long does it take to get a refugee or humanitarian visa in Australia?

The average processing time for a refugee or humanitarian visa will vary depending on the visa subclass you choose, the quota allocated to your chosen visa subclass and your personal circumstances.

The decision process can take months or years.
