Temporary Graduate Visas Changes – New English Language Requirements

The Australian Government aiming to better prepare visa applicants has increased the to English Language Requirements for Temporary Graduate visas, effective from 23 March 2024.

Key changes include:

  • Minimum IELTS score: Increased from 6.0 to 6.5, with a minimum score of 5.5 for each test component (reading, writing, speaking, and listening).\
  • Test validity window: Reduced from 3 years to 1 year. Applicants must provide evidence of an English Language test completed within 1 year before the visa application date.

To meet these requirements, applicants can provide evidence of citizenship and valid passport from select English-speaking countries or achieve specified scores in recognised English proficiency tests.

For British National or Hong Kong passport holders, specific score requirements other than above apply.

These adjustments aim to ensure that Temporary Graduate visa holders possess adequate English proficiency for success in the Australian workforce.
