Partner Visa Program – What has changed?

Exciting updates have arrived for Australia’s Partner visa program! Effective from 24 November 2023, there’s no longer a distinction between ‘onshore’ and ‘offshore’ applicants for granting a Partner visa.

Here’s what’s happening, previously, there were two visa pathways: Onshore and Offshore.

The new changes mean that all Partner visa applicants can now be granted a visa, whether they are in or outside Australia at the time of decision.

These changes apply to all visas granted on or after 24 November 2023.

Impact of the Changes:

  • Onshore Partner visa applicants no longer need to stay inside Australia while waiting for their visa to be granted.
  • Offshore Partner visa applicants no longer need to stay outside Australia while waiting for their visa to be granted.
  • Offshore Partner visa applicants also gain direct access to Australia’s merits review process, providing greater protection and a direct avenue of appeal.

Overall, these amendments are a positive step forward, offering more opportunities and protection for Partner visa applicants.
